Character backstory:
Serenity grew up as a distant child, she was always quiet and shy around groups of people throughout her childhood and adolescence. This deemed to be a worthy trait as when she eventually did start speaking people would listen since they were always words of wisdom, despite her age, but she was a very troubled girl she had a irrational fear of dark spaces, since she believed that something always lived in those dark spaces: This fear calmed down in her adolescence but has left an impression on her to this day, her grades were average, C's and B's in comprehensive, then in A level taking philosophy, psychology and law, she received a low A in both philosophy and Law and a D in psychology, on the side she went to a scout club, where she learnt survival techniques and basic first aid like bandaging, treating infections and making a make-shift splint. After college, she studied philosophy and Law at the university of Cardiff, where she graduated with two degrees.
Serenity's relationship with her parents was much like with everyone else, distant, she would shut herself off and research things that interested her, which was basically philosophy and law, her adolescence was mostly consisted of studying or with her close friends and her boyfriend, and worked part time as a receptionist at the Welsh royal high court and a volunteer jury right through to her 20's until the war started. She remembers vividly watching the sky open and the combine ships rushing through, and from enjoying a cuddle with her fiancé one day to being forced onto a train to city 13, her first hell.
Upon entering city 13 a wave of depression, being separated from her fiancé, immediately seeing overpopulation in this city so people were forcefully on the streets, she was disgusted but with this over lap of depression her speech ceased to be, this was a genocide of her humanity, not only that a genocide of the human race. The civil protection in city 13 did not take kindly to anyone, if you spoke without permission you'd be incarcerated weeks. She'd built up a stereotype for the civil protection, has cold, heartless people, who lost their humanity, wishing nothing but death, she was scared of them, much like the darkness as an embodiment. The population of city 13 diminished with weekly line shootings, ordered by the city administer. That's when she met her first friends since the separation of her and her fiancé, her name was Kinzo, he originally came from south Korean but studied and mastered in English literature and Korean literature, they'd help each other out calm each other down, they were best friends.
One day civil protection was making a daily raid, well it seemed that way as time went so slow in her mind, and opened fire into several apartments, one of them being Serenity's. Kinzo used his body to shield her from the wave of bullets, his last words to her being "Carry on living..." The day after I over heard two units talking about Kinzo, this is what they said "Did ya hear? That guy we killed in that one apartment, the Korean guy. He was the leader of the rebellion in city 13. Who woulda known?" Her stomach dropped, knowing that he put her life in such jeopardy, didn't tell her about it but tries to save her. Her anger grew and she collapsed. Civil protection kicked in the door and took her in for questioning. She realised that they were protecting her in a way, sort of like everything was a string. A civil protection unit even vouched for her that she wasn't part of the rebels. A new light was shown from this, she became loyal to the combine. Still scared of them though.
As a security measure she was sent to city 18, which had shown to have less rebel activity than others, would this be a new hell or a new era?
